The official Amazon Web Services (AWS) South Wales User Group – the first of its kind in Wales, launched May 18 at TechHub Swansea. The event attracted over 70 people, ranging from students, academics, and start-up enthusiasts to global organizations from both private and public sectors.
We joined forces with Lewis Richards (a.k.a. The Digital Chef) to showcase the latest in consumer technologies, and broadcast live around the world in various streams. This included welcoming Jeff Barr, global evangelist for AWS, who put on his Google Cardboard glasses and was transported to the event from the United States via a 360-degree live stream in virtual reality. On top of all this, we were even featured in the South Wales Evening Post and Business Life magazine.
The user group aims to play a role in growing a digital community in South Wales region. A recent report from the Leading Edge Forum confirmed the growing role that communities play in personal and professional lives. Employees bring significant value through their communities. With a desire to grow the community, I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Alert Logic as a new sponsor of the user group, and thank them for hosting the Cardiff event in their state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC) and European Headquarters. Security is an ever-growing concern in the digital age and AWS sees cloud security as the highest priority, with “security” as the first pillar of their well-architected framework. That is why it is fantastic to connect with one of the world’s leading managed security providers and an AWS advanced technology partner.
The event line-up is looking exceptional, with leading experts covering a wide variety of topics from security and the world’s first serverless conference, to automation and real life case studies, such as how the Football Association of Wales scaled their website during the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Championships.
The next user group will take place on Wednesday, July 20 from 5:45pm to 8:30pm, click here for more details about the agenda, and I hope to welcome as many of you as possible on the day.
