Federal IT blog FCW reported that the CIA has signed a $600 million, 10-year contract for cloud services with Amazon Web Services. While neither the CIA nor Amazon would confirm, the CIA CIO told the board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council that the CIA is looking to the commercial sector to find cost-efficiencies and software-as-a-service solutions. Takeaway: Seeing the CIA move toward public cloud solutions sends a strong message to other federal agencies, as well as anyone concerned that the cloud is not a safe option. As we have seen in our own customer data analysis in our State of Cloud Security Report series, the idea that the cloud is inherently unsafe is a perception not supported by data.
